Week 1, Day 5, Activity 2

Week 1, Day 5, Activity 2

Yusra is a girl from Syria and she is a really good swimmer.  She was brave because she saved 20
people on a small boat with her sister.  The boat broke down and so she swam the boat to safety with her
sister and some others.  Once she got to Germany she practised swimming a bit more and she entered
the Olympics and entered the swimming race.  She is a refugee now. A refugee is someone who leaves
their country and only takes maybe just one thing with them and the clothes that they are wearing.  They
have to wait for people to give them stuff like clothes and a place to live.

Yusra was really brave and I think it is cool that she wants people’s perception to be better about her
and all refugees.  I would want to ask her if she won her Olympics medal?

  1. Hi Hayley,

    It’s Leisha again :)

I am really impressed with your retelling of Yusra’s story. I also think that what she did was very brave. I also like that you included a description of what a refugee was as there may be some people reading your blog that don’t know what it means. Did you know what a refugee was before doing this activity?

You have thought of a great question to ask her. I don’t think she has won medals at any Olympic games yet, however she wants to complete at the Olympic games in Tokyo this year so perhaps she will win one there!

Another great post! Well done Hayley.
